Nebuliser Therapy

Nebuliser therapy is a treatment method used to deliver medication directly into the lungs in the form of a fine mist, making it easier for patients, especially those with respiratory conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or bronchitis, to inhale their medications. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who have difficulty using inhalers or need a larger dose of medication. A nebuliser is a machine that converts liquid medication (often bronchodilators like albuterol or steroids) into an aerosol that can be inhaled through a mouthpiece or mask. The therapy helps open up the airways, reduce inflammation, and ease breathing. Nebuliser treatments are usually administered in short sessions, often lasting 10-15 minutes, and can be done several times a day depending on the severity of the condition. While nebuliser therapy is effective, it requires proper maintenance of the equipment to prevent infections or contamination. In addition, patients are educated on correct breathing techniques during the therapy to ensure the medication is delivered effectively to the lungs. It’s an essential therapy for managing acute exacerbations of respiratory conditions and for long-term control in chronic lung diseases.
